Contemporary healthcare facilities aim to create healing and optimistic environments that reduce stress and boredom through design tools.

Scientific studies* show the impact of the spatial environment on well-being, with nature views having better treatment outcomes.

Evidence-based design** uses credible research to create lower-stress environments and more efficient workflows. This leads to effective interior design with well thought-out colour schemes, lighting, acoustics and imagery, however, common art installations in healthcare facilities are often inaccessible to patients.

Patients prefer calm and easily recognizable images to create a personal atmosphere in hospital rooms.

At the University Geriatric Medicine Felix Platter in Basel, over 600 (six hundred) large-format, colorful images have been installed to create a personal and orientative atmosphere for patients and staff.

The images were adapted to the respective room situations and took on the character of additional windows.

Each room has two thematically and color-coordinated "windows": a local motif and a plant motif. Calming images promote well-being and healing processes, while striking images serve as orientation aids for patients.

A scientific study is currently investigating the effectiveness of these image installations.
